The MSBO Business Manager/CPA Workshop delivers timely information for business managers and practicing CPAs preparing for a successful year-end audit. Believe it or not, it’s audit season again! How are you preparing for the latest changes in regulations? Are you familiar with the latest GASB implementations? How is budgeting going to change?

Credit

SCECH and CPE credits are available. Certification credit is also available for those in the renewal stages of their certification.

  • Earn SCECH credits based on the number of sessions you view.
  • After the Workshop, you will be able to complete an online form for SCECH/CPE credit.

    You will receive an emailed Certificate of Completion for SCECH and CPE (CPA) credits. Additionally, if you are in the MOECS system, your credit will be uploaded. If you have any questions on SCECHs or CPEs, please email Lillie Rapelje. 50 minutes equals 1 CPE and 60 minutes equals 1 SCECH. SCECH credit is rounded down to the quarter hour. There is a maximum of 10.0 SCECH hours and 12.0 CPE that can be earned.

State Continuing Education Clock Hours (SCECH): 10.0

It is a criminal offense to use or attempt to use a State Continuing Education Clock Hours (SCECH) transcript or certificate of completion that is fraudulently obtained, altered, or forged to obtain a teacher, school administrator, or school psychologist certificate, or other State Board approval.

Governmental Accounting and Auditing Update*

Your FY2023-24 financial statement and single audit are impacted by many changes on the federal level. Insight into these standards, including GASB 101 and SAS 145 Risk Assessment audit standard as well as the new Bond and Sinking Fund Audit Guide will be provided along with the implications from related MDE guidance for public schools. Get an overview of the expected changes to the 2024 Compliance Supplement along with a focus on the wind down of pandemic-related funding on the accounting, reporting, budget planning, and federal grants compliance process.

Statement on Auditing Standards (SAS) No. 145, Understanding the Entity and Its Environment and Assessing the Risks of Material Misstatement, goes into effect for FY2023-24 audits. SAS No. 145 revises the definition of significant risk and requires auditors to consider general information technology (IT) controls, with the goal of better risk assessments and enhanced audit quality. Hear how this could impact your district’s audit for FY2023-24.

ESSER and GEER Monitoring – MDE and Guidehouse*

The Michigan Department of Education (MDE) is required to monitor Federal COVID-19 Stimulus grants made with Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) & Governor’s Emergency Education Relief (GEER) funds. MDE has contracted with Guidehouse and its partner firms (Rehmann and Pierce Monroe & Associates), known as the Compliance Team, to assist with this monitoring. Hear about the state’s approach to monitoring reviews.
